Training Opportunities The Materials Management Division (MMD) has developed a number of training programs for state agency personnel seeking local purchasing certification. Purchasing certification at any level is valid for three years. Renewal requirements must be fulfilled to receive recertification. The training classes are: Purchasing Authority for $0 to $10,000: Attend a one-day entry-level training session to learn the basics of State purchasing. Upon completion of the one-day training session you will be given an open book written exam to take home and complete on your own. Passing the exam you will be certified to make purchases for the State of Minnesota up to $10,000.00 for three years. The training session will include:
If interested in attending this training, please contact Linda Marzinske at 651.201.2409 or email linda.marzinske@state.mn.us. Recertification for Purchasing Authority for $0 to $10,000: Attending a recertification training session every three years is a good refresher for State buyers. This session allows more time for discussion of new policies and examples of real purchasing. Recertification is required every three years by taking an exam. Certified buyers have the option to take the exam without attending the training or attend the training, then take the exam. Buyers who do not pass the exam and did not attend the training are then required to attend the training session and retake the exam. Upon passing the exam you will be recertified for an additional three years. The training session will include:

Purchasing Authority for $10,000 to $25,000/$50,000: This training is a one and one-half day session that includes hands-on solicitation processing in MAPS. There is an in-class written exam. There are three prerequisites for this class: the individual must be certified to purchase up to $10,000, the individual must be proficient in MAPS, and one of his or her primary responsibilities must be purchasing. (This is not an intro to MAPS training class.) After the class, the trainee is placed on probation. When the trainee has been on probation for a minimum of six (6) months and has processed a minimum of six (6) solicitations in the MAPS system, the trainee must contact the MMD training coordinator, in writing, to request a purchasing review. If the trainee passes this review, certification is granted. The applicant's agency head or delegate must approve attendance at this certification class. The training session will include:
